About Me

Hugging two trees with one arm.

I consider myself an optimistic environmentalist, aiming to make everyday choices with the ambiguous goal of continuously leaving positive impacts. I’ve realized that, instead of getting entangled in worries over what level of impact I may or may not have upon others and the environment, I can at least be someone who attempts to make a difference.

Hugging two trees with one arm began as a saying by a young vegetarian who could not bear to even metaphorically kill birds. But it has grown into my personal mantra, a reminder that small triumphs are the root of all greater successes.

Not unlike the adage of killing two birds with one stone, I hug two trees with one arm by learning from people as I educate, by gaining insights as I give, and by developing my identity as I turn my passions into actions through commitment to service. Keep scrolling to learn more!

Favorite's list!

podcast

“Ologies” by Alie Ward is a podcast I recommend to everyone. Whether you are a science person or not, there are incredible interviews and wealth of information in the series. Plus, Alie Ward’s commentary is often hilarious and relatable!

book

Julia Alvarez’s “In the Time of the Butterflies” is probably one of my top favorite books of all time. Her vivid descriptions and flawless characterization still leave me wowed upon ever reread!

short film

“Validation” is a short film I re-watch whenever I’m feeling down. Released in 2007, this one is an oldie but it never fails to bring a smile to my face. I think small acts of kindness and paying it forward are messages the world needs now more than ever.

music

Jax is an incredible singer-songwriter releasing upbeat pop music that is isn’t afraid to tell it like it is! Her songs clap back to stereotypes and pressures put on young girls. Also, “Victoria’s Secret” and “Cinderella Snapped” are great to jam to!

Important Causes

Here is a list of organizations and movements I support through volunteer work and donations. Click on the logos below to check out their websites for ways you can get involved too!

Working at the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore as Zoo Crew Instructor (Summer 2019)

a list of people i'm insanely inspired by:

julia alvarez

Julia Alvarez is an American-Dominican poet and novelist (who I'm continuously in awe of). After first reading her novel "In the Time of the Butterflies", I realized I wanted to be a writer myself one day. She's incredibly talented - and English isn't even her first language.

eva westphal

Eva Westphal is a singer-songwriter who is genuine and honest about about issues that many people struggle with such as body image and eating disorders. She is unabashedly herself, an aesthetic I strive for myself. Also, it doesn't hurt that her music is awesome!

octavia butler

Not only are Octavia Butler's novels fascinating reads, they deal with concepts such as race and gender identity written well before it was acceptable to discuss. Butler was also a woman of color writing in a genre dominated by men - so basically a certifiable bad ass.

paul hawken

Paul Hawken is the founder of Project Drawdown. Described as "the most comprehensive plan ever proposed to combat global warming", it is an environmentalist's dream!

Meet Mia!

Meet Mia – my fluffy partner in crime who loves snuggles, playing fetch with her stuffed elephant, and climbing on my laptop while I’m trying to work. She’s a shorkie (part Shih Tzu and part Yorkie), a foster-failed rescue, food obsessed (aren’t we all), and enjoys a good walk! Most of all, Mia makes my life indescribably better. She is my trained service dog, meaning she stays by my side 24/7, tasking and supporting me so that I can be the best version of myself.
